I don’t know what the schedule is compared with the F-35 which is next in line. But the trend is definitely with UAVs. They’re cheaper, don’t require the amount of pilot training and associated costs, they can be available in larger numbers due to lower costs, etc. None of this will occur overnight though.

If there ever comes a time when they replace all combat aircraft it will be a bit depressing. Somehow, I couldn’t see a Blue Angels flight display being flown by remotely operated UAVs. That would be like going to your local RC field.
