An Iraqi blogger wrote a piece about interviewing an old lady in her neighborhood, who remembered when the first family on the block got a TV. All the ladies would go over and watch after breakfast, and then when the news came on they would veil themselves—for modesty in front of the newscaster. They kept doing this until the hostess’s son came home from school early one day and pointed out that just because you can see him doesn’t mean that he can see you.

Apparently he was sort of startled to find all of his mother’s friends hanging out in the living room in their street clothes.

That’s a common story, even in the US.

Ladies would get dressed up before sitting and watching television, think that the person could see them.

Chicks, man.
