Well, in fairness, I’d have to disagree with that almost categorically. Forgiveness absolutely requires that one no longer seek punishment, or else it’s just a meaningless word.

If I forgive, then I may wish to forego seeking punishment or retribution, correct.

However, the laws of the society at large do not necessarily match my personal willingness to forgive.

The guy has been convicted. He skipped. He should serve his time.
