Depends from couple to couple, but primarily to keep the marital relationship central, and put its wellbeing first. This can include letting a spouse veto choices of who you ‘date’, or letting a spouse call off other relationships for a time because they feel neglected. Rules about others in the family, and what they’re allowed to know about your respective love lives. All kinds of stuff. Basically, you have to be careful not to neglect your primary relationship just because you’re allowed to get sex and romance elsewhere.
