Yes, but it wasn’t KTVU’s intent to ridicule. It was whomever confirmed (or said someone had confirmed) the names that was being “cute”.

But reports I’ve seen since then indicate that KTVU already had the names, then called NTSB “to confirm”.
And when they called they got an intern who probably thought “WTF?” and everyone had a nice laugh and then put it on the air.
Besides, why would anyone at KTVU even think about calling anyone to confirm names that were an obvious attempt at a bad joke?
