Concrete learners have trouble with abstractions like infinity and unknown quantities. It’s one reason why some kids hit a brick wall when they take algebra. Their minds have not yet developed abstract thinking skills. You might as well be talking to them in ancient Hittite for all the good it will do. And if a student gets foiled by algebra, pre-calculus and calculus are beyond their grasp. Infinite series — wut?

I never had a problem with the abstract thinking part. I just never gave a damn about the value of ‘x’.
