South Asia comprises India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and several small nations. All told they make up almost 1/5th of the world’s population.

And that is important to us.

For example, all the hand wringing over Iran. How many times do you see laments over Iran still being able to sell all the oil they can pump? Americans like to think we should be able to just turn it off. Yet all those people in Asia need, need, every last drop of oil Iran (or any other close nation) can produce. There were talks about building pipelines straight to India from Iran via Pakistan - I don’t know where that lead to, but it shows where the direction is heading for MidEast oil.

Just wait until the “Foreign Policy” debate coming up in October. I wonder how many questions will really challenge the candidates to address the big problems, or if it will just turn out to be an exercise in American narcissism.
