Perhaps having been caught with the bag was a sign he needed a psych eval —perhaps needed anti-anxiety meds or something?

IMHO, people use drugs very often as a way of self-medicating —long before addiction takes over.

If my kid was found with illegal drugs of any kind, I’d first wonder why it appealed to him —and was he attempting to self-medicate.

I know I certainly was. Mood disorders tend to run in families.
