A friend gave me some copies of ARCHAEOLOGY magazine. In the November/December 2008 issue, there’s a “From the President” letter penned by C. Brian Rose, President of the Archaeological Institute of America, in which he states that “Global warming is real, and it is one of the gravest threats facing our shared cultural heritage.” He then goes on to repeat the NOAA claim that “the ten warmest years have all occurred since 1995,” and the UN’s claim that “the world’s glaciers are receding at a record pace.”

“Melting of ice and permafrost endanger most frozen sites on the continents, while rising sea levels promote the erosion and submergence of others.”

One of the funniest statements he makes is “At risk, in particular, are the ancient remains of people frozen in glaciers and on mountaintops.” He goes on to site “Otzi, the late Neolithic herdsman discovered in the Italian Alps; the 550-year-old Native American hunter whose body was recovered from a melting glacier in British Columbia…” The only reason both of these bodies were found and recovered in the first place was that the snow and ice melted and revealed them!

A hundred thousand years hence, I think they’ll hack C. Brian Rose’s body out of a melting glacier, and find that he died holding a sign saying “Stop global warming.”
