Do you know anything about the history of the term “states rights?”

That question could be interpreted several ways. The debate about how much power should reside in the federal government and how much should be denied the federal government predates the constitution. In so avoiding the term “state’s rights”, I’m asking if you take issue with the notion the federal government is overreaching.
