I would also add that the resurgence of the Birch Society, the Moonies and even the religious right are all dependent on a real or imagined communist threat. The religious right is fading fast and the only reason to align with neo-confederates and Birchers is to join forces to fight communism like the old days. Since there isn’t a real global communist threat anymore they have to invent one. It’s all about manufacturing an enemy.
