40 years ago, my Mom’s family basically cut all ties with her because she married my Dad when she was expected to stay at home to take care of the relatives and her brothers and sisters. Her parents wrote her out of their wills and her sister and older brother haven’t said a word to her in decades.

They showed up on my Mom’s doorstep today, apparently homeless and living out of a beat up car, saying now that my Dad was dead, they could be a family again and they would be moving in to “take care of her.”

My mom threatened to turn the dog on them and said she had 911 ready on the phone and if she ever sees them again, she would file a restraining order and charge them with trespassing/stalking her.

Fucking hell.

I’ve got an aunt and uncle who have gone full metal wingnut back in Tennessee, but we’ve managed to stay on (barely) speaking terms. I can’t imagine having things degenerate that badly with my folks. That’s an incredibly awful situation to be stuck in.
