That cost analysis has been done and if you are hiring someone to decorate your trees (as a business or public space might) it is generally cheaper to decorate them and then throw everything out and start fresh the next year rather than pay people to do it, as well as the cost of space for storing the stuff.

Geeze, I was just free associating on the idea. Who would have imagined that somebody had actually made a study on it.
