re: #622 Decatur Deb

Both parties turned themselves inside-out in the years between Teddy Roosevelt and LBJ. If I were alive then, I would have been a TR Republican.

Ha, if I were alive then, I wouldn’t have a vote — wrong body parts.

As much as white conservatives sniffle and whimper about the current state of the Black Vote and the Democratic party, people should be aware that we have never held out ANY loyalty to either party, because both have been crappy. You bring up TR, the vote of 1912 was an interesting one. I talk about it often, because that election season was 100 years ago to the date.

I often ask people, ok, you’re a Black man in 1912, eligible and registered to vote, i.e., not literacy tested or poll-taxed out. Who are you going to choose. Your choices are: Roosevelt (P - Bigot-Lite), Wilson (D - White Supremacist) and Taft (R - Going Nowhere Fast).

DuBois and other NAACP types very reluctantly threw in with Wilson, having already been burned by Roosevelt. Famously, they got blanket segregation of all federal facilities in 1915, sent to WW1 in segregated armies, and returning to a summer of race riots. Nice.

So when some of my gay friends cry to me about how BETRAYED they felt when Obama got Rick Warren to deliver a prayer for a minute and a half, I cannot help but shake my heads and laugh at them.
