Obama says we need to be patient. Now he says the economy will take years to recover. They are really spinning away on the failed stimulus. At least it shows they are paying attention to public opinion.

I bet if they gave a 3 month tax holiday the economy would have been more stimulated. Of course, that would have required them letting us keep our own money and deciding how we would spend it.

That is what has always been done in the past to pull the economy out of recessions. It’s astonishing that nearly a trillion dollars worth of stimulus money is sitting unspent while the economy continues to scrape along the bottom, or perhaps sink even further. Less than 10% of that money has been allocated, and less than that has actually hit the streets. Six months after the bill was passed.

Slashing withholdings by as much as 100% would get the economy back on it’s feet in a hell of a hurry. But see above; it would also interfere with ramming programs like national health care through Congress on a wave of fear and anxiety as more and more people lose their jobs. It isn’t in the Administration’s best interest to get the economy running smoothly again at this point.
