They weren’t protesting the amount of the taxes. They were protesting the position of having to pay taxes while having no say in the government that was levying them.

Last time I checked - about 30 seconds ago - we currently have representation in government at all levels.

Trying to equate these protests to those of the Revolutionary tea party by claiming similarity of causes is a non-starter.

In Massachusetts, increasing property taxes beyond a certain amount requires a referendum. My town had to split the referendum up into where you could vote money for specific parts of the budget. Now that is taxation with representation.
