San Francisco would like to forget not just because of the people that died, but because they’d also like to forget the hold Jones had on the city’s politics (because his followers voted as a bloc as Jones told them to). Many were the San Fran politicians who kissed Jones’ ring, including Harvey Milk. That, however, is all too typical and they were just doing what politicians do: lining up the voting blocks to win elections.

It was a lot more than just Harvey Milk. Feinstein, who took Moscone’s place, and Willie Brown were among them, too. The topic came up as smear tactics during both of Brown’s successful runs for mayor. But that’s not why “San Francisco” would like to forget.
