It’s not about anger, Ray. This is about making clear to everyone, especially celebrities, that if you drug and rape a child you will go to prison. You can’t buy your way out of it, and you can’t simply run long enough to make us move on. You must pay for such a misdeed. To fail to punish Roman Polanski is let others think thaat they may be able to rape avoid punishment for it. And that is not an impression we can give.

Well, I am sure that the wheels of justice will turn on Polanski. I was not suggesting that he be set free. I’m just saying that I’m ambivalent about the whole thing.

I just have this vision of a woman who has moved on with her life now knowing that she is going to be dragged through the press and possibly back into court when she would just rather it all go away. I am pretty sure that I sympathize with her a lot more than the people who want to make sure the state gets its pound of flesh.
