Well the unions in NYS are trying to kill any chance of fiscal responsibility with their latest misleading ads. They’re demanding that Paterson not cut health care spending on Medicare and hospital funding, even though there are no cuts.

It’s just that the state isn’t going to spend as much as they had previously indicated for the upcoming fiscal year. The unions will still get more money, just not as much as hoped for.

It’s cynical, it’s misleading, and it works.

It’s worked for decades, which is part of the problem with governments across the nation - they mislead over what they’re doing in the name of fiscal responsibility and protecting tax revenues. In fact, in many places, that’s never been a concern, only making sure that they can enlarge the amount of tax revenues to spend as the mandarins see fit.
