Because the fact that the police went to his house and removed potentially relevant things (sometimes a pressure cooker is just a pressure cooker) means that while they are calling him a witness they are investigating him.

If he is innocent I am happy for him and for the cooling down of speculative flames about Muslims.

Not sure why saying we should never apply political stencils to unfolding events is controversial.
