My only familiarity with Cuban food was from a Cuban family in our neighborhood for whom I used to babysit when I was in high school. I don’t really know what was in it but whenever they were cooking it smelled horrible.

It’s good stuff. No idea what they were cooking but my favorite is the classic sandwich. Pork, ham, Swiss cheese, mustard, all on good bread.
