I read a piece about how JJ Abrams eschewed overuse of CGI in Star Wars VII, to give the actors something concrete to interact with. Likewise, Tarantino refrigerated an entire set so the vapor of the actors’ breath would look real on camera, and they would be more immersed in the scene.
Interesting. Orson Welles filmed this great scene of The Magnificent Ambersons literally in an ice house in sunny Los Angeles, in good part to catch the effect of the actors’ breathes.
