The outrage is that he holds a position in the church, he speaks for certain areas of the church. This is not the dude on the corner being kicked out for not saying enough hail mary’s, this is a leader being allowed to remain after spouting hateful lies.

He holds no position in the Church, except as a priest w/out the functions of that office (he was never ordained a Bishop in the RC Church. As such, he’s not one when the excommunication was lifted). No one would be excommunicated for not saying enough “Hail Marys” (whatever the fuck that means) and hateful lies are much more mundane than seems apparent to you .. which is pretty ironic, actually.
