A well organized and regulated militia is a right. For many years that was understood as the state national guard. Time to go back to the common sense interpretation of the Second Amendment.

Except that interpretation is not how the founders viewed it when they wrote it. The militia is every adult citizen. In the Militia Acts of 1794 you see the clearest expression of what the original intent was - that every free adult male citizen was required to own a military class long arm, ammunition for it & to drill twice a year. Everyone. Not just a handful in the National Guard.

For that matter, the militia is still legally defined in the US Code as being made up of all male citizens between 18 & 45, those males of that age who have declared their intention to become citizens, & women who are in the National Guard.
