But, Pryor did co-write the screen play with Brooks and others…the reason he didn’t play Bart was the studio brass was seeing him getting wasted all the time and thought he was nuts.

Right, the story of Pryor’s career is filled with substance abuse. Eventually it ruined him.

But in the mid-70s Pryor was at the height of his powers, a real comic genius. Cleavon Little was certainly competent and funny, but he didn’t have that undefineable spark that made Pryor the Number 1 ranked comic in history as voted by his peers.
