In the last 20 years, I’ve made as much as 57 dollars an hour as a programmer, and as little as 10 dollars an hour as a programmer. I work because I like to work, I take a job because I know I can deal with the salary… I’m not going to apply for a job that is not going to take care of the basics… don’t these people realize this?

My old boss (well, to be more specific, my boss’s boss) was laid off. When the higher ups were telling him, he volunteered to be demoted and take a pay cut down to my boss’s level. They refused, so he volunteered to be demoted and take a pay cut down to my level. Basically, my boss would now be his boss, and I would be his equal. They refused.

I think my salary would still take care of the basics for him, but I was still amazed he was trying to do that.
