I noticed that 30% of those polled were in the south, which seems odd.

But we don’t have the specific breakdown of demographics by region, and that’s what would be needed for your point. You’re pointing out that the demographics of the south don’t reflect the demographics of the nation (as represented by their demographic for all those polled). But that’s to be expected— look:

I don’t doubt you, but those figures can only apply to those who are registered or identify themselves as belonging to a party at all— and the poll includes nonvoters, people who call themselves ‘other’ and independents.

My point, I guess, was that if their poll reflected the demographics of the nation as a whole, then they should not have broken it down into regions, as if that was important somehow.

Look - we in the South are very sensitive to attempts to make Southern whites look like rabid heathen redneck racists.

Most of us are not. There are some; but I’ve lived here all my life, and I have rarely come across such people, and they are shunned from polite company.

And if their poll information for the region is not reflective of the region’s population, then I personally have a difficult time accepting their results as credible, at least for whatever they are trying to show for this region. So I question why they even broke it out into regions at all.
