Actually, just as a visceral reaction, I have many colleagues who were honestly having a hard time choosing between Obama and McCain.

As soon as McCain chose Palin the said to me - OK that settles it.

They voted for Obama in droves because they actually prefer people who are not openly hostile to intellectualism.

FWIW, my barber, a Hispanic guy in a t-shirt, gave Palin as his reason for voting Obama, too.

Surprised me, but I didn’t get into it with him, while he was holding sharp objects and all.
