Btw, and this is REALLY IMPORTANT, most injuries and loss of life comes AFTER the storm. Especially people trying to clear debris around downed power lines when there’s a lot of water about. DON’T BE A HERO for goodness sake and stay away from any power lines.

I have to jet out, but I wanted to stress this again. First reported deaths from Irene:

npr.org

Emergency officials in Nash County said a man was crushed to death outside his home by a large limb blown down by the storm. Nash County Emergency Management Director Brian Brantley said the man was walking outside his home in a rural area of the county about 10:20 a.m. today when the limb struck him.

People are so relieved that the storm is over, they don’t pay attention. It’s the most dangerous part of these storms.
