Privilege is largely invisible to the privileged, and I speak as one of the privileged.

It’s exactly the same motivated reasoning that underpins white supremacy - only if the playing field is truly level are my accomplishments all my own doing. If you see yourself pulling ahead of others who aren’t white and male, it must be because you’re better at your job than they are.

While white people certainly have privilege in society, not all white people are in fact privileged. Trust me, I felt no privilege whist I was homeless for eleven years. Despite conservative claims that they support veterans, I was entirely invisible to society as a homeless disabled vet (including being disenfranchised from voting—my first vote after becoming homeless in 1996 was in 2012).
