re: #685 Obdicut

Why should we lump all eggs in one basket of epic fail, when we can let 50 states come up with a solution that might actually work. Some states do end up doing a better job at controlling costs, or providing coverage - finding the balance is a trial and error thing, but they can’t control costs and provide wide coverage at the same time because those have divergent results. It costs more to insure more people at the same level, or else you have to reduce coverages while expanding coverage. With the feds running this mess, we’re going to get nothing but bad outcomes, and when the budget deficits explode instead of shrink because tax revenues and all the assumptions by the CBO don’t come to fruition, the I told you so wont be sufficient.

I’ve yet to hear a solid alternative for health care reform that I would buy into from anyone in the political realm (or elsewhere for that matter) - not that it matters since we’ve got only those options before us - the three versions essentially prepared by the House and Senate. We’ve got a HCR package (all versions) that front loads taxes and penalties to build up a reserve that will be gone within a few years of the operation of the HCR once it kicks in.

I’ve yet to hear any Democrats defend what will happen to the costs of this HCR once the reserves are gone, which means deficits as far as the eye can see unless you start reducing coverages.
