Okay. When you make a path in a park, you have your choice of materials, some of which are easier to walk on than others. You could make the path out of something easier to walk on, or harder. It’s not ‘energy theft’ to make it out of something that takes more energy if there’s other reasons for it— durability, cheapness, less environmental impact, whatever— so why on earth would it be ‘energy theft’ to recycle some of the energy used in walking instead of letting it dissipate?
