I tend to answer my cell phone and hang up quickly if I don’t think it’s a legitimate source. The problem with ignoring calls from my area code is that they could be from a doctor’s/hospital office and I don’t have every number stored on my phone. Usually I disconnect quickly if it seems fraudulent or something that doesn’t interest me. There was one time that I started ranting at such a caller who claimed I owed money — and then discovered it was legitimate — some medical bill that Medicare disallowed.

I was getting these scam calls in a threatening robotic about orthopedic braces (which I already have) threatening that I would be cut off Medicare if I didn’t pick up. That scam got busted a couple of weeks ago.
