You are probably correct. Stalin was so bad he disgusted Communists from all over the world, and then Mao sent it over the edge.
Marx was on a quest for equality, some would see it as unrealistic idealistic, but it has inspired the “weekend”, Medicare, the rights to public education, and social security, these are all good things.
I don’t think Marx was based in reality, he was very wrapped in deep theory which is reflected in his thick writing style.
