I guess in WWII you could consider Pearl Harbor, and the attacks on Oregon in 1942, but those both stand out as unique events. What constitutes ‘fighting’ a war on soil?

Trenches and spent artillery shells would be my guest.

Most of our experience in the 20th century is at a step removed from that. Minor incidents like those you mention, a Japanese I-boat tossing some shells at a refinery, etc. The German U-boat campaign off the East Coast in 1942 (Operation Drumbeat) is probably the largest since it brought home the need for blackouts and the fact that debris and bodies were washing up on the beaches.
