I assume the market will rebound within your friend’s lifetime. I also agree that selling now would be a mistake and would reduce his investable assets.

He might even consider reinvesting his dividends in currently cheap shares, anticipating a rise in share prices in the future.

That’s my strategy.

(But I could be wrong.)
