I guess I just don’t understand anyone, including those here, who are rooting for someone from the other political spectrum to be the perpetrators here. Horror is horror no matter who did it and childishly pointing at the other side and saying “you bad” seems to me to be almost sacrilege toward the memory of those needlessly hurt or killed. There was an article in Salon two days ago where the writer was hoping against hope that the bad guy would be a white male. Conveniently forgetting that the majority of the FDNY killed running into the Twin Towers were white males.

The difference being that white males don’t get group-blamed, beaten up, and occasionally killed for the violent actions of other white males at at all the same rate as, say, any other ethnic clade.

As someone who’s family is 50% Muslim and 75% South Asian of the mistaken-for-Arab variety, I’m very much on pins and needles about who did it. Threats, insults, and posturing are already boiling over—there’s been a retaliatory assault already.
