If you want to look and find bad hotels, it’s incredibly easy to do (just go on Kayak or any other travel site, and look for the zero or 1 star ratings) - even in the most well-to-do and affluent areas of the country. You’ll find plenty of 1 star hotels (or completely unrated for that matter).

Heck, there used to be hot sheet motels on Route 17 in Upper Saddle River, NJ (home to one of the most expensive neighborhoods in the country). Wouldn’t want to go and spend the night there. And even towns that were bankrupt like Stockton have decent motels (including chains like Holiday Inn or Best Western). It’s all a matter of wanting to look for the hotel/motel.

I have heard that Yelp will only post reviews of 2 stars or less, and businesses have to pay to release the good reviews, does anyone know if that is true? Doesn’t seem legal.
