Green-er, sure. But we still are dependent on foreign oil to an enormous degree— I do not think we’ve seriously improved in that. We still produce enormous amounts of waste, Bush rolled back a shitton of environmental protections. If everyone already cares, how come Bush was allowed to gut so many environmental regs?

I think that declaring everyone wants cleaner air and less dependence on foreign oil — or at least not comparing it to “Well, they really want that, but they also want things that are contrary to that goal, and they want them a lot more— is foolish. People have demonstrated, the market has demonstrated, that we don’t really give a shit about the environment.

Hell, the tragedy of the commons proved the basis of it a long time ago.
