Heh… I don’t listen to the weather heads on anywhere other than Weather Channel, and read the radars/reports from the NWS/NOAA/NHC directly. Far more sober evaluations.

Right now NYC metro is getting rain - the outermost rain from Irene, but it’s intermittent without any real wind.

That’s going to change as the day wears on and the storm moves closer.

Storm surge is a huge concern because the storm is so big, and Masters and other meterologists are warning that the storm is punching at least one class over the Cat 1/2 it was forecast on the wave action because of the size.

The slow pace the storm is crawling up the coast means that the training effect of the rain is going to unleash significant flooding in parts, and that rain, combined with the wind may take down lots of trees and result in power outages that may take several days to clear.
