re: #0 swamprat

I don’t think I was setting myself up. Those rulings did change things. The question du jour is;

How much?
and
When?

I had not considered the implications of (very) early privately funded schools versus the later publicly funded schools. Somehow I had thought we had publicly funded schools in the 1800’s.

It was the ‘answer or insult me’ that I thought was setting yourself up.

We did have public schools in the 1800s, and the issue of school prayer is dependent, in an indirect way, on the Everson opinion, or more accurately, on the general process of the Court deciding repeatedly that the strictures of the First Amendment applied to the states as well as the federal government.

My only beef is with michael whatsisbucket pretending that separation of church and state was invented by poor old Hugo Black in Everson, which is pure revisionist stupid.
