I lived with some hard-core jazz students at Indiana University in Bloomington and one of them sat me down and pointed out that the root of all jazz is still frigging 12-bar blues and if you know how to listen, it is still in there somewhere.

There’s my problem, timing and notes and frequencies, music in general, are out of my grasp. I can enjoy it, but I can’t fathom how to make it. My 3rd grade trumpet teacher said I should never be allowed to handle a musical instrument. I concurred.
