If your point is that we haven’t had perfect separation of church and state, that’s rather obvious.

It doesn’t mean we didn’t have separation of church and state from the very start. We did.

From what I read, it was a really mixed bag. Everything from raging Bible-thumpers to atheists, with many going to the Unification Church as a cover to take the heat off from the those who though everybody should go to church.
