Okay, conspiracy theory time: Paul’s own campaign staff came up with this story in order for it to be proven false and make Paul look like a victim, earning him some sympathy votes. Whaddya think?
I have a old college buddy who is a reporter. He is suspicious that sometimes public officials or politicians let something they know is wrong or questionable go to print, even when contacted by the reporter for comment/response/denial, so they can slam the paper/reporter for being untrustworthy/biased/whatever. “See, John Q. Public, they are lying to you! Don’t trust them. Trust my campaign!!”
