If I’m making a park, do you think I’m engaging in ‘energy theft’ if I make a path out of gravel— which sucks up a lot of energy since you actually displace it— rather than a nice rubbery polymer?

If the gravel saps too much energy, I might prefer to walk on the grass. But no, using gravel for a pathway is not energy theft, as the energy I lose to it is converted to heat.
