The belief that the constitution is “a living document” is centered on the idea that it means whatever the ruling elite wants it to mean at any particular time… even if the new meaning runs directly counter to the actual words in the document.
The opposite of “living document” is not “dead document”, it is “constructionism” or “original intent”.
A constitution with no fixed meaning is worthless… it protects nothing.
Yes, I’m, being sarcastic, but it’s also worth recalling that we have, with great care, been interpreting and modifying said document for a while now.
