Or there were two originals made, possibly? BCs are for the Vital Records departments. I think some of you that think you have an original might have a duplicate original- the state gets an original BC from the hospital.

My husband needed to get a passport. He’s never had one. His BC was a copy of the original Certificate of Live Birth, so he just ordered certified copies (2) from the state. The website service Vitalchek may be used by anyone who was born or married here who wants a certified copy of their birth or marriage certificate. Or check to see if you can order directly from the issuing state.
