re: #750 reine.de.tout

I actually would have preferred a little more color.
HOWEVER,
I learned something a week or two ago.
In preparation for her trip to Europe this summer, we have had some meetings with the tour leader of the group my daughter will be travelling with, one of her teachers.

They told the kids that if they didn’t want to “stand out”, they should not bring brightly colored clothing, that Europeans tend not to wear bright colors.

I have never been to Europe and so I don’t know if this is true - but Carla Bruni in that dress seems to be making the point.

Bright colours are fine - as a splash, and used judiciously.
Carla has chosen a colour which right now is very fashionable, and, being clever, one which enhances her delicate features rather than drowns her.
A wise French woman won’t chose bright colours and/or patterns if the detract from her face and figure.
But that is all something for grown-ups - kids surely should be allowed to wear what they like?
