Oooooh, God have mercy, I said I wasn’t going to get sucked into this discussion again:

There have been numerous conflicts in Central America in which native peoples have fought for their land and their rights. These have largely found supportive listeners outside of their region.

However, that’s not a reasonable analogy to the formation of the State of Israel. Let’s leave ancient history to one side for a moment, and focus on the year my mother was born. At the time of Israel’s creation, there was a substantial minority Jewish population in the region, which wished to establish an independent state. They were given land to do so by the colonial power which controlled the region, and most of the rest of the land in the area—Jordan, and all the area outside the 1948 borders of Israel—was assigned to the ethnic majority.

Then the fight started.
