You are in the position of seriously saying that if someone makes a gravel path rather than making a rubbery path, they are stealing your energy.

That is pretty goddamn insane, man.

I said a gravel path would not be theft…
There would be nothing of value taken from me, with or without my consent.

But a walkway designed to extract useable energy from me, even if horizontal, is equivalent (from my POV) to a walkway that is uphill, both ways. Or to a treadmill powered transport which transmits energy (beyond that needed for my motion) somewhere.
